James Group, founded initially as O-J Transport Company by John A. James and Calvin Outlaw, is created, overcoming numerous Federal legislative battles, including a Supreme Court decision where Mr. James obtained a 48-state operating authority while easing the burden for minorities to enter the trucking business.

Mr. James applied for the right to be a "common carrier" so that he could haul automotive parts and malt beverages, a move that was protested by the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) for over 3 years until it was eventually carried into the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Mr. James, granting him the authority to transport between states. This victory also allowed women and minorities to enter transportation—an industry that was exclusively for white males at the time.

Followed by Mr. James' Supreme Court win, the Motor Carrier Act of 1933 was amended and signed by President Jimmy Carter, successfully deregulating the trucking industry.

James Group International (JGI) is established as a parent company to James Group.

Renaissance Global Logistics (RGL) is awarded the Ford export consolidation business.

James Group receives the General Motors Award for Supplier of the Year.

James Group receives a 2nd General Motors Award for Supplier of the Year.

Lorron James joins James Group International (JGI).

James Group receives the Ford World Excellence Award.

RGL is awarded General Motors outlet shop business.

Magnolia Automotive Services (MAS) is established as a strategic alliance between James Group International (JGI) and Toyota Tsusho America, serving tire and wheel assembly at Toyota’s Blue Springs, MS plant.

RGL is awarded additional business with GM for their supplier risk management needs.

John E. James joins James Group International (JGI).

MAS expands cross-dock services for Toyota Tsusho America and adds a plant in Charleston, IN.

RGL implements industry-leading Oracle JD Edwards Advanced Warehouse Management System.

Glenn Willrich joins Renaissance Global Logistics (RGL). 

RGL expands its operating capacity by adding a 250,000-square-foot facility in Plymouth.

Five Crowns Trucking (FCT) is established as a full-service transportation solution for short haul and shuttle services. 

FCT is awarded two contracts supporting Stellantis' growing business needs. 

The John A. James Foundation is established, empowering Detroit’s youth through education and philanthropy.

MAS expands its operations with a second tire and wheel assembly facility in Huntsville, AL. 

FCT is awarded new business for inbound shuttles to support Detroit Export Operations. 

RGL is awarded Stellantis’ shuttling business for JNAP Assembly.

RGL is awarded MOPAR service parts re-packing in Romulus, MI.

FCT is awarded shuttle sequencing services with Stellantis.

FCT is awarded additional shuttle services with Ford and General Motors.

RGL adds to its portfolio of facilities with a new plant in Wixom, MI.

RGL is awarded operational control for a large GM facility in Pontiac, MI.

RGL is awarded a sizable GM defense contract in Romulus, MI.

RGL receives the Ford World Excellence Award for Supplier of the Year.
